[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen visited a Marine Corps base and personally carried a portable anti-tank rocket launcher to inspect the security situation.
According to local media on the 2nd, President Tsai visited the Taoyuan Marine Corps base located in northern Taiwan and was seen shouldering the "Kestrel," a portable anti-tank missile launcher developed by Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST).
While receiving an explanation about the weapon system, President Tsai showed interest in the Kestrel and tried carrying it herself, commenting that it was "light and convenient." The Kestrel is 1.1 meters long, weighs 5 kg, and is made of fiber-reinforced plastic. Its range reaches up to 400 meters.

Taiwan's military authorities are reportedly deploying 292 Kestrel rocket launchers to the Pratas Islands (Dongsha Islands) and Taiping Island (Itu Aba), which are under Taiwan's jurisdiction and located in the South China Sea, a disputed area with China.
