Discovering Excellent Designs and Sharing Them with the Public
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "8th Republic of Korea National Symbols Design Contest" to encourage public interest and response to national symbols and to enhance familiarity.
First held in 2003, the "National Symbols Design Contest" was established to discover excellent designs expressing national symbols, share them with the public, and increase their utilization. Since its first event in 2003, it was held every two years, and from 2007 onwards, it has been conducted every three years.
The contest themes include design creations utilizing national symbols and designs enhancing the national image using Hangul and cultural heritage. This contest is divided into high school, university (graduate school), and general categories. Applications will be accepted online from the 3rd to the 30th, and a total of 40 works will be selected through a first-round screening and a second-round physical screening of the selected works.
In particular, this year, to elevate the prestige of the National Symbols Design Contest and to attract the general public's interest, an exhibition of the winning works will be held around August 15th, Liberation Day. Detailed information such as how to submit works and application forms can be found on the Republic of Korea National Symbols Design Contest website. The award scale includes one Presidential Award (10 million KRW), three Prime Minister Awards (3 to 5 million KRW), and a total of 40 awards amounting to 56.9 million KRW.
