Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, and 3 Other Companies Recall Over 40,000 Vehicles Across 23 Models
On the 2nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that a total of 41,746 vehicles across 23 models manufactured or imported and sold by Renault Korea Motors, Stellantis Korea, Tesla Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea, Ford Sales Service Korea, and FMK have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).
Renault Korea Motors will conduct a recall on 28,892 vehicles of 2 models, including the XM3, manufactured or imported and sold since July 2020, due to the possibility of engine stalling caused by damage to some parts (impeller) inside the fuel pump. Although a recall was previously conducted, the same issue has recurred, so an additional recall will replace the parts with improved components. From June 2, free repairs (replacement with improved parts) will be available at Renault Korea Motors’ direct service centers and authorized repair shops.
Stellantis Korea will recall 7,605 vehicles of 13 models, including the Peugeot 3008 1.5 BlueHDi, imported and sold, following an investigation by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority’s Automotive Safety Research Institute. The investigation confirmed the possibility of engine stalling due to foreign substances generated by wear from insufficient durability of some parts inside the high-pressure fuel pump, which prevents proper high pressure formation inside the pump. From June 15, free repairs (replacement with improved parts) will be available at Stellantis Korea’s official service centers.
Tesla Korea will conduct a recall on 4,056 vehicles of 2 models, including the Model Y, imported and sold (before sales), due to a software error in the vehicle control unit. This error causes the touchscreen to slow down or display a blank screen during high-voltage battery fast charging, which may result in the rear camera video and other images not appearing on the screen, increasing the risk of accidents. From June 3, an improved software update will be automatically applied remotely.
Mercedes-Benz Korea will recall 1,077 vehicles of the EQA 250 model (including pre-sale vehicles) imported and sold, due to a software error in the airbag control unit that causes some data not to be recorded in the event data recorder during an accident, which is a safety standard non-compliance issue. The importer will voluntarily conduct the recall first, and later, considering the recall rate and other factors, a fine will be imposed.
Additionally, 93 vehicles of 3 models, including the Mercedes-AMG GT, have been found to have a risk of the drive shaft separating during driving due to adhesive failure in the connecting parts between the drive shaft and the engine and transmission. From June 3, free repairs (including software updates) will be available at Mercedes-Benz Korea’s official service centers.
Ford Sales Service Korea will recall 13 vehicles of the Aviator Plug-in Hybrid model (including pre-sale vehicles) imported and sold, due to assembly defects in the high-voltage charging port causing poor contact in the internal wiring of the charging port. This may cause the engine to stall at certain speeds below 3.2 km/h while driving. Since May 27, free repairs (inspection and parts replacement) have been underway at Ford Sales Service Korea’s official service centers.
FMK will recall 10 vehicles of the Maserati MC20 model (including pre-sale vehicles) imported and sold, due to defects in the rear light circuit board causing flickering when the rear lights are on, which may affect the safety of drivers following behind. Since May 31, free repairs (inspection and parts replacement) have been underway at FMK’s official service centers.

Regarding these recalls, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the recall procedures via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner has repaired the defect at their own expense before the recall, they may apply for reimbursement of the repair costs from the manufacturer.
