President Yoon to Personally Award Sports Merit Blue Dragon Medal to EPL Top Scorer Son Heung-min

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol has decided to personally award the Cheongryong Medal, the highest grade among sports medals, to Son Heung-min (30, Tottenham), who became the first Asian player to win the top scorer title in the English Premier League (EPL).
According to a presidential office official on the 31st, the decision to award Son Heung-min the Cheongryong Medal was made at the first Cabinet meeting presided over by President Yoon at the Government Complex Sejong on the 26th.
The sports medals are divided into five grades: Cheongryong Medal, Maengho Medal, Geosang Medal, Baekma Medal, and Girin Medal, with the Cheongryong Medal being the highest grade.
Recipients or posthumous awardees include the late marathoner Son Ki-jeong, mountaineer Captain Um Hong-gil, former South Korea national football team coach Guus Hiddink, professional golfer Park Se-ri, and the ‘Figure Skating Queen’ Kim Yuna. Recently, the late Captain Kim Hong-bin, the first disabled person to summit the highest peaks of the seven continents and all 14 peaks of the Himalayas, was posthumously awarded.
Usually, in the case of athletes, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism typically presents the Cheongryong Medal on behalf of the president, but this time, it is known that President Yoon has set a policy to personally present the Cheongryong Medal to Son Heung-min.
