On the morning of the 30th, after holding a joint press conference at the ‘Lee Jae-myung Camp’ office in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, Chairmen Yoon and Park performed a spontaneous ‘One Team ceremony’ by placing their hands together at the suggestion of candidate Lee Jae-myung (Incheon Gyeyang-eul).
Candidate Lee said, “Since many citizens and supporters are worried, let’s show through this gesture that we are not experiencing any conflict at all. Although we had some differences in speed and process despite having the same goal, we have now decided to come together and join hands.” Then, placing his hand on top of both Chairmen Yoon and Park’s hands, he said, “Hold tight. I will take full responsibility. We are one team. We will unite our strength and surely repay you with victory.”
When asked by reporters whether the conflict with Chairman Yoon had been largely resolved, Chairwoman Park said, “Many citizens and supporters were very concerned, but I believe that exchanging diverse opinions is healthy democracy,” adding, “Rather than a conflict, I would appreciate it if you see it as the growing pains we experienced moving forward.”
Chairman Yoon said in a radio interview that morning, “I do not agree with the term ‘conflict resolution.’ Even while boarding the plane at Bongha Village, I sat right next to Chairwoman Park and had sufficient discussions.”
At the joint press conference that day, they promised to reform the Democratic Party and appealed for support. Chairman Yoon emphasized, “With a determination to cut to the bone, I will innovate the Democratic Party and change politics to transform the future of the Republic of Korea. Please stand with the Democratic Party. Just as despair and anger are great, please choose balance and capable figures at the voting booths.” Chairwoman Park also said, “We will create a younger Democratic Party, a stricter Democratic Party, a Democratic Party that keeps promises, a Democratic Party free of verbal violence, and a Democratic Party preparing future policies. After the local elections, we will implement all five innovation plans so that the same promises are never repeated.”
