Shinan-gun, Full Effort to Support Rural Labor During Farming Season
Over 600 Employees Mobilize to Support Labor-Shortage Farms
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Public officials in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, have begun full-scale farm work this month and visited garlic and onion farms struggling with labor shortages due to rising labor costs and COVID-19 to help with farm labor.
This labor assistance involves about 600 employees from all departments of Sinan-gun providing support to farms experiencing difficulties in securing agricultural workers.
On the 20th, 20 employees from the Tax Accounting Department assisted with harvesting garlic on 400 pyeong in Amhae-eup, and on the 24th, 21 employees from the Eco-friendly Agriculture Department helped with harvesting garlic on 800 pyeong in Palgeum-myeon.
Mr. Jeong, a beneficiary farmer in Palgeum-myeon, expressed gratitude, saying, "We were worried about the labor shortage during the busy farming season, but the employees' help at the crucial time was a great support."
A county official stated, "We will continue to actively encourage social organizations, military units, educational institutions, and clubs to participate in volunteer activities to overcome the labor shortage."
