[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Kim Jae-mu, the Democratic Party candidate for mayor of Gwangyang, Jeonnam, is making inroads into the sentiments of rural villages by consecutively announcing pledges for each township unit.
On the 18th, Kim released a press statement proposing the installation of an "East-West Sky Cable Car" connecting Gwangyang, Jeonnam, and Hadong, Gyeongnam as a campaign promise.
He stated, "Gwangyang is a buffer zone bordering Hadong, Gyeongnam, east and west, with the Seomjin River in the middle. Despite being an area with excellent potential for tourism resources, it has yet to be utilized. We will thoroughly review and supplement all surrounding conditions and install a cable car to develop it as a landmark representing Gwangyang."
He also promised, "We will establish an electric mobility hub in Daap, near the Seomjin River, featuring electric scooters and bikes, and create a distinctive train-themed camping site along the riverside. We plan to develop the Seomjin River beach as a waterfront cultural space to attract tourists and boost the local economy."
Jinsang-myeon, symbolizing clear water and white cranes, presented four promises: ▲ Early completion of the Jinsang~Okgok rural road ▲ Creation of a forest flower path along the Su-eo Stream embankment ▲ Sewage pipeline maintenance project to improve green algae and water quality in Su-eo Dam ▲ Opening of hiking trails such as Gaksangbong.
Jinwol-myeon, the starting and ending point of Baekdudaegan, also proposed: ▲ Construction of the Jinsang Icheon~Jinwol Singi road ▲ Revitalization of the Seomjin River Geuddeul village (experience village small art museum) ▲ Construction of the Seonpo~local road ▲ Establishment of an exhibition and performance space at Mangdeok Port that attracts visitors year-round.
Kim said, "If the cable car, a symbol of East-West harmony, is installed, tourists will be able to view the Seomjin River landscape at a glance, which will greatly benefit the local economy. We will also establish institutional measures to allocate a portion of the operating profits to the Seomjin River ecological conservation fund."
