The Public Recommendation Process Begins for Successor to Justice Kim Jae-hyung Retiring in September
From the 20th to 30th of this month, anyone aged 45 or older with experience as a judge, prosecutor, or lawyer can be nominated

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The Supreme Court will begin the public recommendation process to select a successor for Justice Kim Jae-hyung, who is retiring this September.
The Supreme Court announced on the 16th that it plans to accept nominations for candidates to succeed Justice Kim from the 20th to the 30th of this month.
Anyone aged 45 or older with over 20 years of experience as a judge, prosecutor, or lawyer is eligible to be nominated as a Supreme Court Justice. Qualifications for justices, nomination methods, and nomination form templates will be announced on the court’s website (www.scourt.go.kr).
Once the nomination period ends, the Supreme Court will disclose the list of nominees who have consented to the review, along with information on their education, major career achievements, assets, and military service, and will collect public opinions. Subsequently, the Supreme Court Justice Recommendation Committee will review the nominees and recommend at least three candidates deemed suitable as Supreme Court Justice nominees. Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo will select three from among them and submit the nominations to President Yoon Seok-youl.

The Supreme Court Justice Recommendation Committee consists of the senior justice, the head of the Judicial Administration Office, the Minister of Justice, the President of the Korean Bar Association, the President of the Korean Association of Law Professors, the Chairperson of the Council of Law Schools, one judge, and three external legal professionals (including at least one woman). The Supreme Court plans to receive recommendations for the three external members from the 20th to the 26th of this month.
