On the 14th, HanGil Research, commissioned jointly by Cookie News and Jeonnam Joongang Newspaper, conducted a survey on the 12th targeting 1,016 adult men and women aged 18 or older residing in Jeollanam-do, asking about the candidates for Jeonnam Superintendent of Education. Candidate Kim Dae-jung received a support rate of 31.3%.
Candidate Jang Seok-woong, who had been leading in various polls, ranked second with 28.4%. The results showed 12.4% did not know/did not respond, 12.1% said there was no suitable candidate, 9.8% supported other figures, and candidate Kim Dong-hwan received 6.0% support.
Analyzing support by political party, among the progressive Justice Party supporters, candidate Kim Dae-jung (42.5%) showed the highest support rate. Among the Democratic Party supporters, candidates Kim and Jang had similar support levels, while among the People Power Party supporters, Kim Dae-jung (24.5%) and Jang Seok-woong (20.9%) were supported. Among the non-affiliated group, the highest response was no preferred candidate (35.8%).
Regarding the criteria for choosing a candidate for superintendent of education, policy and pledges (35.1%) ranked first. This was followed by personality and ability (31.0%), integrity and morality (15.9%), don’t know/no response (5.4%), others (4.7%), educational ideology (4.4%), and educational experience (3.5%).
Among People Power Party supporters, 44.8% chose 'personality and ability' as the most important criterion, while 37.6% of Democratic Party supporters selected 'policy and pledges' as the top criterion.
When asked about current educational issues in Jeonnam Province, 37.4% cited 'resolving the educational gap between urban and rural fishing villages,' 25.5% said 'transparency and communication enhancement in educational administration,' and 13.3% said 'normalization of public education.' This was followed by 'strengthening the role of education in the local community' (8.0%), 'enhancing educational welfare' (6.9%), don’t know/no response (4.9%), and others (3.9%).
This survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire method (100% wireless ARS with random sampling allocated by gender, age, and region). The response rate was 9.2%, and the sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Statistical adjustments were made by applying weights based on gender, age, and region according to the resident registration population data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of April 2022.
