Introduction to Carbon Neutrality and Exhibition Design Cases
"Expecting the Spread of ESG Management and Competitiveness Enhancement in the Domestic Exhibition Industry"
[Asia Economy Reporter Sunmi Park] KOTRA announced on the 12th that it will jointly hold the ‘2022 Exhibition Design Trend International Forum’ with the Korea Exhibition Design Association at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul.
Under the theme of ‘Exhibition Design and ESG,’ the forum, held on the 13th, aims to present ESG directions applicable to the exhibition design field and disseminate global trends to enhance the international competitiveness of Korea’s exhibition industry.
Domestic and international industry experts will serve as speakers to introduce cases of ESG application and directions for adoption in the ‘exhibition design installation’ sector. First, Tom Bowman, an eco-friendly specialist consultant from the U.S. exhibition magazine ‘Exhibitor,’ will deliver a video presentation on ‘Carbon Neutral Industry Trends in the Exhibition Industry,’ followed by Hye-ryeon Kim, Vice President of the Korea Exhibition Design Association, who will present on-site about ‘Environmental Evaluation Requirements at Exhibitions.’
Andreas Horbelt, director and former ‘Creative’ head of the German Pavilion at the 2020 Dubai Expo, will introduce the German Pavilion case designed with eco-friendliness and carbon neutrality as the theme through a video. Son Jeong-su, team leader at Innocean, the exhibition operation agency for the Korean Pavilion, will explain the ‘ESG Design Adoption Case of the Korean Pavilion’ on-site. Additionally, Inhwan Kim, CEO of Juseong Design Lab, an exhibition design installation company, will share ‘Cases of ESG Application in the Exhibition Industry.’
In the final session, key domestic exhibition industry experts such as Professor Hee-gon Hwang of Hallym International University and Eunsuk Yang, president of the Exhibition Design Installation Association, will exchange opinions on the direction for ESG adoption in Korea’s exhibition industry.
Prior to the forum, a job consultation session will be held in the morning to support the discovery of excellent talent in the domestic exhibition industry. Nine exhibition design companies and students from 13 domestic universities aspiring to work in the exhibition industry will participate in employment consulting and interviews.

Jae-won Ryu, Director of the Trade and Investment Data Division at KOTRA, stated, “As global demand for ESG management increases, it is time for the domestic exhibition industry to accelerate ESG-based exhibition operations,” adding, “We hope this forum will serve as a starting signal to spread ESG management throughout the entire domestic exhibition industry, beginning with the exhibition design sector.”
