Korea Securities Depository Creates Meditation Forest at Busan Gyeongnam Girls' High School
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 12th that it held a completion ceremony for the school meditation forest at Gyeongnam Girls' High School located in Dong-gu, Busan.
The Depository planted trees such as Styrax japonicus and Cornus officinalis, which help absorb carbon, on a 720㎡ site within Gyeongnam Girls' High School and created a walking trail.
Lee Myung-ho, President of the Korea Securities Depository, said, "I hope the meditation forest will serve as a resting place for students tired from their studies and as an educational space for environmental issues such as carbon neutrality, which is becoming increasingly important these days."
Ryu Seong-chun, Principal of Gyeongnam Girls' High School, expressed gratitude, saying, "We thank the Korea Securities Depository for creating the meditation forest, which can be used not only for students' emotional development but also as a place for ecological learning."
The school meditation forest project is a major pillar of the Korea Securities Depository's ESG contribution initiatives. Starting with Kaesong High School in 2018 upon recommendation from the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, the project has been implemented in a total of eight schools in the Busan area, including Gyeongnam Girls' High School in 2022.
