COVID-19 New Cases 35,906... Below 50,000 for 9 Consecutive Days (Update)
354 Critically Ill Hospitalized Patients... 63 Deaths
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new daily COVID-19 cases has remained below 50,000 for the ninth consecutive day. The number of critically ill patients slightly decreased compared to the previous day, but the number of deaths approximately doubled.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 12th, as of midnight, 35,906 new cases were added, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,694,677.
The daily new cases have stayed below 50,000 since the 3rd, when 51,119 cases were recorded. This is a decrease of 6,383 cases compared to a week ago on the 5th (42,289 cases).
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized slightly decreased to 354 from 383 the previous day. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 19.2%, with 17.7% in the Seoul metropolitan area and 22.7% in non-metropolitan areas.
The number of deaths recorded as of midnight was 63, about twice the 29 deaths reported the previous day. The cumulative death toll stands at 23,554, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
With 38,335 new patients added to home treatment the previous day, the total number of patients currently under home treatment is 236,239. Among them, 17,022 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.

The COVID-19 vaccination rates are 87.8% for the first dose, 86.8% for the second dose, and 64.7% for the third dose. The fourth dose vaccination rate, targeting those aged 60 and over and immunocompromised individuals, is 6.2%. Among seniors aged 60 and above, 22.3% have completed the fourth dose. The first dose vaccination rate for children aged 5 to 11 is 1.3%.
