[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] The police have launched an investigation against the biological mother after a 2-month-old baby showed symptoms of brain hemorrhage caused by external trauma.
According to the Gwangju Dongbu Police Station on the 11th, a medical institution reported to the police on the 10th, suspecting that the hospitalized baby was abused.
The baby was recently transferred on the 9th from a children's hospital in Seo-gu, where they were being treated for an infectious disease, to a university hospital in Dong-gu. There, the baby exhibited abnormal reactions such as vomiting and difficulty breathing, unrelated to the previous illness.
Following this, the university hospital conducted detailed examinations including a computed tomography (CT) scan, which revealed brain hemorrhage. However, it was reported that the baby's life was not in danger.
After receiving the report, the police booked the biological mother on charges of child abuse and began an investigation. The mother reportedly gave inconsistent statements to the police, claiming the baby fell off the bed by themselves or that she accidentally dropped the baby on the floor.
Furthermore, the date the mother stated the baby was injured, the 4th, was when the baby was still receiving inpatient treatment at the children's hospital.
The police also found evidence that the hygiene condition of the 2-month-old baby was poor and notified the local government responsible for the mother's residence about the matter.
