Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, First Step Toward Becoming a Marine Industry Hub
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, hereinafter YGPA) announced on the 11th that it held the ‘Gwangyang Port East and West Side Hinterland Expansion Construction Detailed Design Service Kick-off Meeting’ at the World Marine Center.
The kick-off meeting was attended by representatives from Gwangyang City, companies located in the hinterland, and residents of nearby villages.
YGPA explained that through the expansion construction of the Gwangyang Port East and West Side Hinterland, it plans to create a complex logistics site covering approximately 200,000㎡.
So far, YGPA plans to start construction of the ‘Gwangyang Port North Side Hinterland Development Project,’ which will develop about 100,000㎡ by the end of this year, in response to the surge in demand for hinterland occupancy and cargo volume after the completion of the Gwangyang Port East and West Side Hinterland.
Along with this, through this project to improve the functions of low-utilization facilities such as green spaces, parks, parking lots, and roads in the East and West Side Hinterland into complex logistics land, YGPA is striving to secure a total of 300,000㎡ of complex logistics sites by creating 200,000㎡.
In particular, YGPA plans to enhance the welfare of local residents by installing sports facilities (ground golf course, tennis courts, futsal stadium, etc.) and park facilities available for use by residents near the hinterland while promoting this project.
Choi Sang-heon, Vice President (Head of Development Business Division), said, “This expansion construction of the Gwangyang Port East and West Side Hinterland will be a stepping stone for the further growth of Gwangyang Port,” adding, “It is expected to greatly contribute to the increase and revitalization of cargo volume at Gwangyang Port, the nation’s number one smart convergence port in import and export cargo volume.”
