Gwangyang Economic Zone Authority Holds Briefing on Industrial Complex Water Supply Modernization Project
Leading Carbon Neutral Industry Support through Modernization of Water Supply in GFEZ Industrial Complex
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Song Sang-rak, hereinafter GFEZ Authority) announced on the 11th that it held the final report meeting for the "Yulchon 1 Industrial Complex Water Supply and Drainage Modernization Project Basic Plan" service on the 10th (Tuesday) at the GFEZ Authority Situation Room, attended by Commissioner Song Sang-rak, private experts, and related officials.
The report meeting was organized to present the reassessment of water usage and modernization plans for the GFEZ industrial complex, focusing on the core strategic industries of the GFEZ Authority announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (such as expanding the production scale of cathode materials, attracting new precursor factories, and establishing a secondary battery production base through linkage with local research institutes). Following the presentation, discussions and feedback were gathered from related experts to finalize the scale of the modernization project.
Additionally, to proactively support the GFEZ Authority’s core strategic projects, prior consultations were held with the Ministry of Environment regarding the "2040 Water Supply and Drainage Basic Plan" to secure raw water for the GFEZ industrial complex. The basic plan service also reviewed cases of diversifying water supply, including seawater desalination and reuse of treated wastewater, and proposed implementation measures.
This service was promoted to modernize facilities such as the water supply and drainage pipelines of the GFEZ Yulchon 1 Industrial Complex, which are currently single-line, and to address aging facilities like filtration ponds and coagulation sedimentation tanks, ensuring facility stabilization.
A GFEZ Authority official stated, "Through this service report, we aim to promptly proceed with the Yulchon 1 water supply and drainage modernization project to ensure smooth water supply for existing resident companies and support the attraction of core strategic businesses, hoping that the Gwangyang Bay area economy can recover early to pre-COVID-19 levels."
