President Moon Meets Wang Qishan, Vice President of China... Also Holds Talks with Halimah Yacob, President of Singapore
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] President Moon Jae-in met with Wang Qishan, Vice President of China, at the Blue House on the afternoon of the 9th, his last day in office.
Vice President Wang arrived in Korea to attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, scheduled for the 10th. During the meeting, President Moon said, "Compared to the inauguration ceremonies of previous Korean presidents, China has sent the highest-level delegation this time," adding, "This shows the will of President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government, who value Korea-China relations."
Vice President Wang emphasized, "President Xi highly values his exchanges, working relationship, and friendship with President Moon. On behalf of President Xi, I extend my congratulations," and added, "China and Korea are eternal neighbors and important cooperation partners to each other."
When President Moon expressed gratitude for China's support of Korea's efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula, Vice President Wang responded, "We highly appreciate President Moon's significant contributions to improving inter-Korean relations, and China will work together to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula." President Moon said, "It is meaningful to meet Vice President Wang as my last official schedule," to which Vice President Wang replied, "It is an honor to be the last visitor to the Blue House."
Before meeting Vice President Wang, President Moon also held talks with President Halimah Yacob of Singapore, who also visited Korea to attend President-elect Yoon’s inauguration ceremony.
President Moon said, "It is meaningful to have an official schedule with the President of Singapore, a key partner in the New Southern Policy, on my last day in office," and added, "I hope that trade and investment between our two countries will expand through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which came into effect last February, and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which Korea is seeking to join." President Halimah emphasized, "Despite COVID-19, cooperation between our two countries has continued to grow," and stressed the need for close cooperation going forward.

Regarding the Korean Peninsula issue, President Moon requested the continued interest and support of the international community, including Singapore, so that the root solution to the North Korean nuclear issue, which can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy, can return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. In response, President Halimah said, "Singapore has closely observed President Moon’s great efforts for peace and harmony on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "Regional peace is also a very important issue for Singapore."
