Jeongeup-si Leads the Way in Establishing a Foundation for Eco-Friendly Agriculture Practices
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, is leading the establishment of a foundation for practicing eco-friendly agriculture by promoting the soil conditioner support project this year as well as last year.
According to the city on the 9th, the soil conditioner support project is a program that fully supports siliceous fertilizer, lime marl, and waste fossil for the improvement of farmland with low silica content and the enhancement of soil fertility free of charge.
In addition, to create a sustainable eco-friendly agricultural foundation through the improvement of acidified soil and maintenance of soil fertility, the project is being promoted by dividing the eup and myeon areas sequentially.
The soil conditioner is supplied at a 3-year cycle interval because the spraying effect lasts for about 3 years.
It is known to restore the inherent functions of the soil, create an environment where crops can grow, and show excellent effects in pest resistance and increased production.
This year, about 1.3 billion KRW of project funds were invested to supply siliceous fertilizer, calcareous fertilizer, and waste fossil to 14 areas including Buk-myeon, Deokcheon-myeon, Ongdong-myeon, Chilbo-myeon, Sannae-myeon, Sanwoe-myeon, and Sanggyo-dong.
In particular, considering the reality of difficulties in spraying due to aging farmers and lack of equipment, a joint spraying team suitable for the local situation was formed, and timely spraying was completed on the target area of 4,000 hectares.
The city expects this to enhance farmers' competitiveness and lead to increased farm income through improved productivity and reduced production costs.
A city official said, “We expect that joint spraying of soil conditioners will improve agricultural productivity and help conserve soil,” and added, “We sincerely thank the members of the joint spraying team who eased the workload of farmers.”
