Professor Kang Mira of the Health Medicine Division at Samsung Seoul Hospital and the nursing team consisting of Shim So-yeon, Kim Min-kyung, and Song Mira, in collaboration with Fine Healthcare, developed the AI pressure ulcer stage prediction solution system "Skinex" and announced it in a poster presentation at the '2022 Global Conference' hosted by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in the United States on the 9th.
Skinex is a solution that, when the pressure ulcer area is photographed with a camera, predicts the current pressure ulcer stage (Stages 1 to 4, unclassified, deep tissue injury) in real time, and recommends dressing products suitable for the treatment direction when skin condition items are input.
About 10,000 pressure ulcer images collected through BPOC (Barcode Point of Care) were used, labeled by three nurses with over 10 years of experience, and the solution showed a high level of reliability and accuracy.
After pilot application in 13 wards, Skinex plans to enhance the solution by collecting additional data and including functions necessary for pressure ulcer nursing care, as well as to expand overseas.
Professor Kang Mira said, “The AI-based pressure ulcer stage prediction solution system will help reduce the nursing workload while providing appropriate nursing services by offering real-time pressure ulcer stage assessment and treatment direction guidelines to nurses managing pressure ulcer patients.” Nurse Shim So-yeon explained, “There were difficulties in pressure ulcer management depending on the nurse’s proficiency, but since the system is installed on work mobile devices, even new nurses can use it effectively.”
