Constructing City Hall Lobby and Mayor's Office in 3D Virtual Space... 'Metaverse Seoul City Hall' Pilot Opens
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it will open a pilot service called ‘Metaverse Seoul City Hall’ for citizens to experience in advance.
According to Seoul on the 8th, by accessing the ‘Metaverse Seoul City Hall’ mobile app, users can create an avatar and visit the lobby and mayor’s office of Seoul City Hall, which are created as a 3D virtual space. There is also a space for collecting citizens’ opinions where suggestions regarding Seoul city administration can be submitted. By clicking the ‘Send Opinion’ mailbox located in the corridor of the mayor’s office, citizens can register their opinions on Seoul city administration. The opinions proposed through ‘Metaverse Seoul City Hall’ will undergo a sympathy voting process according to the standard procedure of ‘Citizen Proposals’ under Democracy Seoul. If the voting results exceed 50 sympathies, the relevant department will provide a response.
Through the pilot service of ‘Metaverse Seoul City Hall,’ Seoul plans to actively reflect citizens’ free opinions and identify operational shortcomings in the ‘Metaverse Seoul’ platform project, which will be fully promoted starting this year. Since Seoul announced the Metaverse Seoul basic plan in October last year as the first world city to do so, there has been significant interest and inquiries worldwide regarding Seoul’s metaverse construction.
On the 4th (Korean time, the 5th), Seoul participated online in the ‘Future Compute 2022’ event hosted by the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a world-renowned media convergence technology research institute, and presented ‘Metaverse Seoul.’ Park Jong-su, Director of Smart City Policy, who was the speaker, said, “The driving force that enabled Seoul to be reborn as a metaverse city is Seoul’s excellent infrastructure and services, as well as its smart citizens.” He added, “Based on outstanding digital resources, we proactively respond to citizens’ desires for new digital experiences and aim to provide better services by promoting ‘Metaverse Seoul.’”
