On the 6th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Hyun-cheol) stated, "Since high-ranking public official crime charges were found against Officer Im, the case was transferred to the CIO pursuant to Article 25, Paragraph 2 of the Corruption Investigation Office Act."
Officer Im was accused of leaking investigation details after claiming via social networking services (SNS) that "she was suspended from duty during the investigation of the false testimony obstruction suspicion under the written direction of the Prosecutor General" in relation to the case involving false testimony obstruction suspicions against witnesses in the political funds violation trial of former Prime Minister Han.
The 'former Prime Minister Han's false testimony obstruction suspicion' concerns allegations from 2011 that the prosecution investigation team coerced inmates who appeared as witnesses in court to give false testimony that former Prime Minister Han received money.
Officer Im investigated these suspicions in 2020 while working as the Inspection Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. However, in February, the CIO decided not to indict President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and others who were charged with false testimony obstruction. This decision came 250 days after the investigation began on June 4 of last year.
In response to this decision, she filed a request for reconsideration, which is currently under review by the Seoul High Court. A request for reconsideration is a system that allows the court to review the prosecution's decision not to indict.
