View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Former chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council and Democratic Party member Kim Jisoo officially declared his candidacy for the by-election of the National Assembly member for Uichang District, Changwon City, Gyeongnam, in front of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council on the 2nd.
Before Kim’s declaration, candidates Yang Moonseok, who is scheduled to run for the Gyeongnam governor election in June, Lee Heungseok, chairman of the Seongsan District Committee, and Kim Jeongho, chairman of the provincial party committee, attended and expressed their support.
Candidate Yang said, “With a large number of Democratic Party members entering city, county, and district councils, a competitive system has been created and corruption has disappeared,” adding, “I hope Gyeongnam will shed the stigma of being a stronghold of the People Power Party and that new politics looking at local residents through mutual competition will be realized.”
Chairman Lee said, “I believe the awakened hearts of the residents will be with comrade Kim Jisoo,” and requested support, saying, “Together with Mayor Heo Seongmu, comrade Kim Jisoo will work for a new Changwon in place of Governor Kim Kyungsoo.”
Chairman Kim also emphasized, “Candidate Kim Jisoo perfectly coordinated with Governor Kim Kyungsoo and played a leading role in innovating a completely new Gyeongnam and boosting the livelihood of the residents,” adding, “He will be the catalyst to further innovate the Gyeongnam administration in continuation of Kim Kyungsoo’s governance and stabilize the livelihood of the people.”
Former chairman Kim expressed his ambition, saying, “Changwon is the barometer of Gyeongnam public opinion, and Uichang District is the barometer of Changwon public opinion,” and “I have stepped forward with the determination that winning Uichang District can lead to the election of Heo Seongmu, and Heo Seongmu’s election can lead to the election of Yang Moonseok.”
He raised his voice, saying, “Local government is not a retirement plan for bureaucrats and politicians who have finished their careers or a stepping stone for restoring honor, and I will prove this together with the residents of Uichang District.”
He pledged ▲improvement of regulations in single-family residential areas ▲expansion of transportation, education, and welfare infrastructure in Uichang District ▲early conversion of Changwon National Industrial Complex into a Smart Green Industrial Complex ▲creation of a hydrogen-specialized complex ▲promotion of relocation of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration ▲establishment of Changwon University Medical School ▲introduction of high-speed rail between Changwon and Dongdaegu and Suseo-bound high-speed train (SRT) ▲construction of Changwon Industrial Line ▲introduction of hydrogen tram (TRAM).
He was noted as the first female chairman, the chairman in his 40s, and a Democratic Party chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, and said he would become the first female National Assembly member from Gyeongnam.

Former chairman Kim said, “I will lead change and create new politics that break all the glass ceilings that were considered impossible together with the residents of Uichang District,” and “I want to meet again as the National Assembly member for Uichang District.”
