Sonid "Subsidiary FD Display Turns Profitable in Q1"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Sonyd announced on the 2nd that its subsidiary FDisplay turned profitable in both operating profit and net profit in the first quarter of this year.
FDisplay recorded sales of 8.5 billion KRW in the first quarter of this year, a 34.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Operating profit and net profit were recorded at 1.4 billion KRW and 2.1 billion KRW, respectively. FDisplay posted an operating profit margin of 17.25% and a net profit margin of 25.26% in the first quarter.
The company stated that ▲ reinvestment demand increased due to the internalization of vision inspection systems ▲ the industry improvement continues with expanded large-scale LCD investments in China, and they are enhancing on-site responsiveness by operating local offices in China and Taiwan by region.
An FDisplay official said, “We have tentatively secured orders worth 30 billion KRW, which is about 70% of this year’s sales target,” adding, “Additionally, sales have been confirmed in the vision inspection system business division.”
Utilizing existing Internet of Things (IoT) technology and vision inspection system technology, the company plans to actively explore opportunities to enter new businesses in future growth industries such as autonomous vehicles and industrial robots.

Sonyd acquired FDisplay in February to secure manufacturing competitiveness. FDisplay succeeded in domestic production of display inspection equipment and devices (probe units) for the first time in Korea in 1998.
