Hyundai Card Introduces Financial Sector's First 'Permanent Remote Work System' Starting This Month
Three groups divided with work-from-home rates of 20%~40%... Up to 50% for pregnant women, etc.
Gangnam Station base office also opened for employees living in southeastern Seoul and nearby areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Card is pioneering innovation in work methods by introducing the country's first 'permanent remote work' system in the financial sector and operating hub offices.
Hyundai Card announced on the 2nd that it will implement a permanent remote work system starting this month. Moving beyond the conventional method of setting a fixed number of remote workdays, this system allows employees to freely choose remote workdays within a group-specific ratio based on the characteristics of their department and job.
The groups are classified into three categories: ▲'On-site,' which includes sales areas with frequent face-to-face communication or organizations where office attendance is essential due to strategic importance; ▲'Hybrid,' which consists of project-based teams with clear individual tasks and possible non-face-to-face communication; and ▲'Remote,' which mainly involves standardized tasks or work where performance depends on individual proficiency.
The remote work ratios for each group are 20%, 30%, and 40% per month for On-site, Hybrid, and Remote groups, respectively. Additionally, employees requiring protection, such as pregnant women, can work from home up to 50% per month. However, executives at the director level and above, new and experienced employees needing adaptation, and some sales staff who must work on-site are required to come to the office.
Alongside this, Hyundai Card will operate a Gangnam hub office to ease commuting burdens for employees living in the southeastern Seoul area and nearby suburbs. Opening in June near Gangnam Station, the Hyundai Card Gangnam hub office will provide office space along with essential work facilities and relaxation areas.
In line with this major shift in work methods, Hyundai Card will provide all employees with 'Digital Coins (Digital Coin·D Coin)' to create a flexible digital work environment across home, hub offices, and office spaces. Employees can use these D Coins to purchase IT equipment such as wireless keyboards, mice, and monitors for remote work through affiliated employee malls. In the first year of issuance, 500,000 D Coins (equivalent to 500,000 KRW) will be provided, and thereafter, 300,000 D Coins (300,000 KRW) will be given every two years.
Since declaring itself a digital Hyundai Card in 2015, Hyundai Card has continuously invested in technology development and talent acquisition for digital transformation. This includes credit card products and services, as well as customized marketing based on artificial intelligence (AI) and data science capabilities. Since April last year, the company has gone beyond changes in products and services to explore changes in work methods and environments by conducting employee surveys and pilot tests, carefully considering various work styles according to employees' tasks.

A Hyundai Card official stated, "This year, Hyundai Card plans to undertake various initiatives with the goal of a qualitative shift to pure financial tech," adding, "The fundamental changes in work methods and environments we are promoting now will be the starting point."
