Sales Price Disclosure on 22nd Last Month
Local Electric Vehicle Sales Last Year 693 Units, Doubled
Hyundai Ioniq 5 exhibited at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) held from late March to early April
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company recently received nearly 1,600 pre-orders for its electric vehicle Ioniq 5 over six days in Indonesia. This number is more than twice the total electric vehicles sold in Indonesia last year, which was less than 700 units.
According to Hyundai Motor Indonesia Sales Corporation, the official number of contracts received from the 22nd to the 27th of last month totaled 1,587 units. The Ioniq 5 was first unveiled at the IIMS Motor Show held locally at the end of March, after which pre-orders were accepted. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first dedicated electric vehicle, and Indonesia is the first overseas location to produce it instead of the domestic factory.
Hyundai’s Indonesia plant began operations earlier this year and started mass production of the Ioniq 5 in March. The local selling price ranges from 718 million to 829 million rupiah (approximately 63 million to 73 million Korean won). Before the price was officially announced, about 800 units were pre-ordered on-site during the IIMS Motor Show period.

According to the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association, total electric vehicle sales in the local market last year were 693 units. Among these, Hyundai’s Ioniq and Kona electric vehicles accounted for 605 units, representing 87% of the market. While Japanese brands dominate the conventional vehicle market with over 95% market share, Hyundai holds a different status in the electric vehicle market.
Hyundai has collaborated with the local ride-hailing service Grab to pilot the supply of electric vehicles and has also established electric vehicle charging infrastructure on highways and in shopping malls. Indonesia is actively promoting the establishment of an electric vehicle ecosystem at the government level and is considered a country rich in battery raw materials, which are key components.

Sales of conventional vehicles are also increasing. Hyundai’s local strategic model Creta, which officially started sales in February, sold 1,440 units in March alone. In this segment, Honda HR-V had been the leader, but the Creta surpassed it to rank first in sales for two consecutive months.
