Selling NFTs and Holding Classes in Virtual Spaces... Shinsegae Department Store Expands Its Metaverse Territory
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Shinsegae Department Store is accelerating the convergence of online and offline through the metaverse. Beyond creating and selling NFTs, it will also introduce cultural center courses via the metaverse.
According to the industry on the 24th, Shinsegae is targeting MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) customers by partnering with MetaKongz, a leading domestic NFT (Non-Fungible Token) company.
On the 22nd, Shinsegae signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with MetaKongz and will produce and sell 10,000 NFTs of Puvilla, Shinsegae Department Store’s representative character. Depending on the grade, excellent customer benefits usable at the department store will also be provided.
Through this agreement, Shinsegae plans to promote ▲planning and production of PFP NFTs (profile-type digital images) using Shinsegae’s own characters ▲NFT exhibitions and festivals ▲online and offline marketing targeting MetaKongz NFT community and Shinsegae Department Store customers ▲building a metaverse ecosystem utilizing NFT characters.
In June, Shinsegae will issue Puvilla NFTs, the department store’s representative character. Detailed information such as how to purchase NFTs, prices, and roadmaps will be provided on the website. Around 10,000 Puvilla NFTs will be issued in three rounds in mid-June, and offline benefits at the department store will be offered according to the grade. Events such as parties for NFT owners are also planned.
Cultural center courses using the metaverse will also be introduced. Shinsegae Academy will conduct cultural, artistic, career development, and creative classes on the metaverse platform during the summer semester.
Representative lectures include ‘Creating a Virtual Reality Gallery,’ ‘Digital A to Z for Future Talent,’ and ‘Art Coloring Met in the Metaverse,’ where students can learn creative methods using the metaverse directly from active instructors. Registration will be available online and offline from the 26th, and classes will begin in June.
