Wando-gun Expands Support for Mothers and Newborns in Childbirth
Expansion of Home Visit Postpartum Care Services for Mothers Using Public Postpartum Care Centers
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that mothers who used the public postpartum care center can also receive home-visit postpartum care services at home.
Mothers who received a discount on the public postpartum care center usage fee were not eligible for support because home-visit postpartum care services were classified as overlapping projects according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's related guidelines.
In response, considering that the average postpartum care period is 30 days, the county has been recommending guideline revisions to Jeollanam-do since February.
As a result, Jeollanam-do decided to proceed with postpartum care services before the guideline revision through consultation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
In the future, mothers registered as residents in the jurisdiction (with a standard median income of 150% or less) can receive postpartum recovery and newborn care services at home through visits by health care workers after using the public postpartum care center.
The usage fee is an average of 230,000 KRW for 10 days (based on the first child).
Applications can be made 40 days before childbirth and within 30 days after childbirth, and should be submitted to the health center or health branch office with jurisdiction over the applicant's address.
Meanwhile, last year, there were 223 births in Wando-gun, and 149 mothers used the public postpartum care center and home-visit postpartum care services, accounting for 67% of all childbirth families.
A county official said, “We will strive to create a childbirth-friendly environment that is good for having and raising children, as well as providing stable postpartum care services and promoting policies to overcome low birth rates.”
