[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 18th the launch of the ‘Hyundai Electric Vehicle Master Certification Program (HMCPe).’ This program aims to cultivate specialized maintenance personnel in line with the expansion of electric vehicle adoption.
The company stated that although electric and hydrogen vehicles were previously included within the existing technical certification system, it was determined that an independent certification system was necessary to enhance the quality of electric vehicle maintenance services and strengthen customer support. Hyundai’s Bluehands engineers undergo three technical training courses on electric vehicles according to their competency levels and then take a company-administered exam. Those who pass receive either the E-Technician or E-Master level certification. The E-Master certification is granted only to engineers who have previously obtained the Grandmaster or Master level in the existing Master Certification Program.
Last month, a nationwide evaluation was conducted, and 2,032 Bluehands engineers received the E-Master level certification. The company expects that as electric vehicle adoption expands, the importance of maintenance services will increase, and plans to have over 90% of Master level personnel obtain the E-Master certification within this year. All Bluehands dedicated to electric vehicles will be designated as specialized electric vehicle engineers.
According to the company, as of the end of last year, among approximately 1,200 Bluehands centers nationwide, 371 are dedicated electric vehicle centers. With an additional 120 centers expected to be added this year, the total will increase to around 500. The company plans to enable electric vehicle maintenance at all Bluehands centers nationwide by 2025. A Hyundai Motor official stated, "Not only Bluehands engineers but also those in commercial and overseas A/S sectors will be equipped with specialized electric vehicle diagnostic and repair skills, allowing us to proactively provide customers with professional and safe maintenance services without inconvenience."
