Han Hwajin, Minister of Environment Nominee, Reports 2.7 Billion KRW in Assets for Self and Spouse
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] Han Hwa-jin, the nominee for Minister of Environment, reported assets totaling 2.71176 billion KRW owned by herself and her spouse.
According to the personnel hearing request submitted to the National Assembly by the Presidential Transition Committee on the 16th, Han reported a leasehold right on an apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul (236 million KRW), deposits of 1.46031 billion KRW, and securities worth 110.65 million KRW under her name.
Han's spouse was found to own an apartment in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (498 million KRW), deposits of 385.48 million KRW, securities worth 17.46 million KRW, and a 2012 SM3 car (3.84 million KRW).
Her mother refused to disclose assets citing "independent livelihood maintenance."
President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol explained in the personnel hearing request statement, "(Han) is recognized as an environmental policy expert who has devoted over 30 years to research in climate, environment, and sustainable development," adding, "She has contributed to establishing national environmental policies from the perspective of harmonizing and integrating policies on environment and energy, and environment and economy."

Furthermore, President-elect Yoon evaluated her as "the right person to achieve expected outcomes in major environmental policy tasks such as establishing an implementation roadmap to realize 2050 carbon neutrality, water management and natural ecosystem conservation in response to the climate crisis, fine dust improvement, transition to a resource-circulating society, and management of environmental risk factors for public health."
