Regarding Loss Compensation After the Endemic: "Losses Due to Government Intervention Will Be Surely Compensated"
[Asia Economy Reporters Kim Hyemin and Moon Jewon] On the 15th, the office of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol expressed respect regarding the appointment of new Audit Committee members by Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, stating that "there was close discussion between the Blue House and President-elect Yoon."
Baek Hyunjin, spokesperson for the President-elect, held a briefing at the Presidential Transition Committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, saying, "President-elect Yoon naturally respects the personnel appointments made by the Blue House."
On the same day, Chairman Choi nominated Lee Myeon-hyun, a professor at Yonsei University Law School, and Lee Nam-gu, the 2nd Deputy Secretary of the Board of Audit and Inspection, as new Audit Committee members. Lee, the new Audit Committee member, previously served as the Secretary for Public Office Discipline at the Blue House during the Moon Jae-in administration. The appointment of Audit Committee members had previously been a point of conflict between the Blue House and President-elect Yoon's office.
When asked if they had prior knowledge of the appointments, Spokesperson Baek said, "Of course, discussions and communication were ongoing, and both sides have deeply formed a consensus," adding, "It is not important which government they belonged to; the Yoon administration also has a policy of appointing truly capable individuals as workers, so we respect the Blue House's appointments."
Regarding the controversy over the transfer of the child of Health and Welfare Minister nominee Jeong Ho-young to Kyungpook National University Medical School, the spokesperson stated that they would wait for the parliamentary confirmation hearing. Baek said, "We plan to observe the verification process of the nominee until it takes place in the National Assembly," adding, "The nominee has shown confidence in being able to explain himself, and we understand that we are thoroughly requesting detailed explanatory materials to prevent any unreasonable framing against Kyungpook National University."
