Author Jeongora's 'Jeoju Tokki' Shortlisted for the UK Booker Prize Final
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Author Jeong Bora (46)'s 'Cursed Bunny' has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize, a British literary award. The Booker Prize is considered one of the world's top three literary awards, alongside the Nobel Prize in Literature and the French Prix Goncourt.
According to the Booker Prize Foundation on the 7th (local time), Jeong Bora's 'Cursed Bunny' was included in the final shortlist of six works for the Booker Prize International category. This is the third time a Korean author's work has been selected as a finalist in this category. In 2016, novelist Han Kang's 'The Vegetarian' won the Man Booker International Prize, and in 2018, her other work 'White Book' was shortlisted. This work was translated into English by Korean translator Anton Hur (real name Heo Jeong-beom), who was also named alongside the author as a finalist.
The finalists also include 'The Books of Jacob' by Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2018; 'A New Name' by Norwegian author Jon Fosse; 'Heaven' by Japanese author Kawakami Mieko; 'Elena Knows' by Argentine author Claudia Pi?eiro; and 'Tomb of Sand' by Indian author Geetanjali Shree.
The winner will be announced on the 26th of next month. The prize money (?50,000, approximately 80 million KRW) will be equally distributed between the author and the translator who jointly contributed to the work.
