Ned Price, spokesperson for the Department of State, said at a briefing that day in response to questions about North Korean human rights, "We have clearly expressed deep concern about this issue in the past," adding, "We look forward to continuing cooperation with the next South Korean government not only on North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear programs provocations but also on addressing North Korean human rights issues."

Meanwhile, the two countries reaffirmed a strong stance on responding, including pushing for a new United Nations Security Council resolution concerning North Korea's repeated ballistic missile provocations. Sung Kim, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, and Noh Kyu-duk, Director-General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met at the State Department building in Washington DC that day to exchange views on regional diplomatic and security issues, including North Korea's provocations.
