Kia Performs Well Overseas, Domestic Sales Down Double Digits... Kia February Sales Down 1%
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia announced on the 1st that it sold 250,646 units (wholesale basis) domestically and internationally last month. This is about a 1% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Domestically, sales decreased by about 12% to 45,066 units during the same period. Overseas, sales increased by 2% to 205,580 units. Domestically, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Sorento was the best-selling model with 5,435 units sold. Leisure vehicles (RVs) such as the Sportage (4,919 units), Seltos (4,266 units), and Carnival (4,065 units) generally ranked high. Total domestic RV sales reached 24,639 units.
On the other hand, passenger cars such as the Ray (3,565 units) and Morning (3,559 units) sold 15,728 units. Commercial models included the Bongo III with 4,608 units sold, and buses and trucks totaled 4,699 units sold.

Overseas, the Sportage became the best-selling model with 31,235 units sold. The Seltos followed with 22,221 units, and the Rio with 16,596 units. A Kia official stated, "Despite ongoing management uncertainties due to semiconductor parts supply disruptions and the spread of Omicron, we are minimizing the impact on supply delays through flexible semiconductor allocation and adjustments to vehicle production schedules."
