Gwangju Seo-gu, Promotes Daily Walking with 'WalkOn' Program
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is operating the walking app ‘WalkOn’ as part of a non-face-to-face walking project to promote walking in the daily lives of its residents.
According to Seo-gu on the 31st, ‘WalkOn’ is an app that allows any Seo-gu resident to participate in walking challenges after a simple membership registration, receive prizes through a lottery, and measure physical activity such as their step count and sleep time.
It is also a walking app that provides health information such as obesity prevention and dietary therapy to help form proper health habits.
Seo-gu will encourage Seo-gu residents to join WalkOn by holding a registration event and conducting the ‘30,000 Steps Walking Challenge’ next month.
The WalkOn registration event plans to select 200 new members of the WalkOn ‘Gwangju Seo-gu Community’ by lottery from next month until the end of May.
The April ‘30,000 Steps Walking Challenge’ will be held from the 9th to the 13th of next month, where 100 residents who achieve a total of 30,000 steps (limited to 15,000 steps per day) will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates.
To participate in the challenge, follow these steps: ▲ Install the WalkOn app ▲ Join the Gwangju Seo-gu walking community ▲ Select ‘Reserve’ or ‘Participate’ on the challenge screen ▲ After achieving the target number of steps, select ‘Apply’.
In the first half of the year, challenges that anyone can easily participate in will be operated, and as more residents join, various engaging challenges such as walking along Seo-gu’s walking trails, first-come-first-served events, donations, and stamp challenges will be offered.
A Seo-gu official said, “We hope that Seo-gu residents, exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, will develop a liking for walking through WalkOn and make walking a daily habit.”
