Hanwha to Host '2022 Symphony Festival' at Seoul Arts Center Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] The '2022 Symphony Festival with Hanwha,' sponsored by Hanwha Group, will be held at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall from April 2 to 24.
Twenty symphony orchestras from across the country will participate, featuring 28 soloists and a total of 20 performances. Under the subtitle 'Harmony,' the festival aims to create a stage of unity where classics and new works, symphony orchestras and soloists, tradition and experimentation, rising stars and established artists, past and present come together.
Departing from the focus on classical orchestral works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann, large-scale orchestral pieces that have not been recently introduced, as well as domestic compositions, will be showcased.
Works by Alexander Scriabin, celebrating his 150th birth anniversary, Rolf von Williams, and C?sar Franck, marking his 200th anniversary, will be featured, along with pieces by Oh Jong-sung and Choi Byung-don, selected through the Seoul Arts Center’s first-ever composition contest for the Symphony Festival.
The Bucheon Philharmonic and Gwacheon City Symphony will open and close the festival, while performances by the Seoul Philharmonic with guest conductors, KBS Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony, Gunpo Prime Philharmonic, as well as newly appointed conductors leading the Cheongju Symphony, Wonju Symphony, Changwon Symphony, and Mokpo Symphony, are also attracting attention.
Pianists Park Jae-hong and Kim Su-yeon, who rose as prodigies after winning international competitions last year, cellist Han Jae-min, pianist Lim Joo-hee, violinist Park Soo-ye, and Karissa Chu, first prize winner of the 2021 Yoon Isang International Music Competition, will illuminate the stage. Conductors Massimo Zanetti, Markus Stenz, and Yoon Han-gyeol will lead the performances, promising the highest level of artistry.
The Symphony Festival will be broadcast live in three ways: online via the Seoul Arts Center’s YouTube channel, simultaneously on KBS Classic FM, and on a 400-inch LED large monitor located at the Arts Center’s Fountain Plaza for real-time viewing.
