View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] South Korea has been reported to have the highest number of new COVID-19 cases worldwide for four consecutive weeks.
According to the weekly epidemiological report from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the 30th (local time), the number of new COVID-19 cases worldwide from the 21st to the 27th was 10,805,132, a 14% decrease compared to the previous week.
By region, all areas, including the Western Pacific which had been leading the increase, reported a decrease in new cases. The region with the largest decrease was the Eastern Mediterranean (-32%), followed by Africa (-29%), Western Pacific (-24%), the Americas (-14%), Southeast Asia (-14%), and Europe (-4%).
On the other hand, South Korea still showed a high increase. During this period, 2,442,195 new COVID-19 cases were reported in South Korea, recording the highest number of new cases. This marks four consecutive weeks.
Following South Korea, Germany (1,576,261), Vietnam (1,127,716), and France (845,119) also reported many new cases. The cumulative global confirmed cases as of the 27th totaled 479,311,589.

Despite the decrease in new cases, new deaths worldwide increased. Last week, new deaths numbered 45,711, a 43% increase compared to the previous week.
By country, Chile (11,858) reported the highest number of new deaths last week. It was followed by the United States (5,367), India (4,525), Russia (2,859), and South Korea (2,471).
