Michelin High-Performance Electric Vehicle Tires for Tesla Launched Domestically
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Michelin Korea launched the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tire for high-performance electric vehicles on the 30th.
The new product is Michelin's first tire designed specifically for high-performance electric vehicles, taking into account the weight and weight distribution of electric cars. The company stated that it provides optimal grip on both dry and wet roads regardless of tire wear level. Considering the driving environment of electric vehicles, which reach maximum torque the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed and rapidly increase speed, durability has also been enhanced. The company explained that the low rolling resistance can extend the driving range of electric vehicles by up to 60 km.
By applying customized polyurethane foam, road noise is reduced by 20%. Michelin also incorporated experience gained from participating in the Formula E championship for more than six seasons. The Electric Grip Compound technology, which applies a hard compound in the center of the tread, provides the necessary grip for vehicles that generate high torque.
This tire is used on the Tesla Model Y sold in China. It will also be installed on high-performance electric vehicles in Europe and North America. In Korea, about 20 sizes ranging from 19 to 22 inches will be released sequentially starting in May.
