Muju-gun Promotes Establishment of 'Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction'

[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Muju-gun announced on the 30th that it will establish a 'Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction.'

The Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction is a top-level disaster prevention plan that must be reestablished every 10 years according to Article 16 of the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act. It comprehensively investigates and analyzes natural disaster risk factors and presents various measures for damage prevention and reduction.

In particular, final approval from the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is required to secure national funding.

Accordingly, Muju-gun is accelerating the establishment of the plan by holding a public hearing for residents on the 30th at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Traditional Culture House.

At the hearing, a review was conducted on 72 risk zones for rivers, inland water, slopes, sediment, drought, heavy snow, and other disasters selected through the 'Muju-gun Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction Establishment and Disaster Map Preparation Service' that has been underway since July 2020.

Additionally, the proposed comprehensive reduction measures, including river maintenance, stormwater pipe improvement, rockfall nets, check dams, reservoir dredging, salt spray devices, and reinforcement of weirs, as well as investment priorities for the implementation plan and phased and annual implementation plans, were shared.

Hwang In-hong, the mayor of Muju-gun, said, "In situations like ours where internal resources are insufficient, securing national budget is tantamount to protecting the lives and property of residents. We will do our best to establish a proper plan based on basic and field surveys by sector."

Muju-gun plans to hear opinions from the county council next month, consult with Jeollabuk-do in May, and apply for approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Meanwhile, Muju-gun applied for the Comprehensive Plan for Flood and Wind Disaster Reduction to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2014 and received approval in 2016.
