Jeonbuk Automotive Industry Expresses Support for Early Transition to Eco-Friendly Vehicles
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Ahn Ho-young, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party, Wanju·Jinan·Muju·Jangsu) and a prospective candidate for governor of Jeonbuk Province, emphasized on the 29th that timely support will be provided to enable Jeonbuk's automobile industry to transition early to eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen cars.
On the same day, Ahn attended the 'Jeollabuk-do Automobile Industry Policy Forum' held at the Jeonbuk Economic and Trade Promotion Agency and stated, "Jeollabuk-do accounts for 95% of the nation's production of medium and large commercial vehicles, highlighting its significant status as a strategic industry."
Ahn diagnosed, "Leading global companies are transitioning to using 100% renewable energy, and Europe plans to implement the Euro 7 standard, which further tightens carbon emissions, starting in 2025. The global economy is currently facing a massive wave of energy transition."
Accordingly, Ahn proposed policies to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen competitiveness in Jeonbuk's medium and large commercial vehicle industry, including △legal and institutional support for commercial vehicle companies to transition to eco-friendly vehicle technologies △establishment of public-private governance to protect the livelihoods of parts suppliers and affiliated workers △expansion of hydrogen and electric charging stations △support for scrapping diesel vehicles and replacing them with eco-friendly vehicles.
As the senior deputy chair of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, the ruling party in the National Assembly, he also expressed the party's willingness to provide active support.
Ahn Ho-young, a two-term member of the National Assembly, serves as the secretary of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee, chairman of the Democratic Party's Saemangeum Green New Deal Committee, and senior deputy chair of the Democratic Party Policy Committee. He officially declared his candidacy for governor of Jeonbuk Province on the 22nd of this month.
