[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Kim Dong-yeon, leader of Saerounmulgyeol, announced on the 29th that he "accepts the Democratic Party of Korea's proposal for merger."
On the morning of the same day, Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and said, "Saerounmulgyeol and I are taking a big step toward political change," adding, "We accept the proposal for the formation of a 'Political Reform Promotion Organization for Political Change' and the merger proposed yesterday by Yoon Ho-jung, the Democratic Party's emergency committee chairman."
He stated, "Since its founding, Saerounmulgyeol has defined South Korea as a vested-interest republic and has advocated political change as the first step to solving problems in society, education, and the economy," and added, "The 'Joint Declaration for Political Change' made with candidate Lee Jae-myung during the last presidential election included substantive measures to break the vested-interest political structure, such as constitutional amendments for a decentralized presidential system and the introduction of a mixed-member proportional representation system."
He continued, "This was a promise containing the core of political change, including power structure reform and political reform, and it has now become an irreversible trend," emphasizing, "From now on, action is necessary."
Kim expressed, "Saerounmulgyeol feels a heavy responsibility to complete political change and intends to walk the path of innovation together with the Democratic Party," and stated, "We will take the path of innovation by relinquishing the vested interests we hold ourselves."
