"Strawberry Milk 1+1" CU, Largest Ever Processed Milk Giveaway Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] CU, the number one convenience store chain, announced on the 29th that it will hold the largest-ever "Processed Milk +1" giveaway event targeting April, a time when outdoor activities increase due to warm weather.
Starting next month, CU will apply the giveaway event to a total of about 50 products. This corresponds to 70% of the processed milk products currently operated by CU, which is about 1.5 times more than previous events.
This event features differentiated products such as the character-packaged "Care Bear" strawberry, banana, and honey gray flavors, as well as steady sellers like Maeil Dairy's "Milk Inside" series, Dongwon F&B's "Denmark Milk" series, and Seoul Milk processed milk series.
In particular, CU is exclusively conducting a 2+1 event on three Maeil Dairy "Hersh Drink" flavors: chocolate, cookies and cream, and protein. These products are representative popular processed milk items in convenience stores, and this is the first time in eight months that CU is holding an event for them.
From April 4th to 10th, CU will offer a 50% discount to customers who purchase six types of Maeil Dairy's "Milk Inside" and "Hersh Drink" series using Samsung Card or NH Nonghyup Card. This event can be combined with the giveaway event, allowing customers to buy three products for the price of one.
Along with the giveaway event, single-item discounts will also be offered. Baskin Robbins chocolate, strawberry, and cookies and cream flavors, Among Us chocolate and strawberry drinks, Choco Emong, and Strawberry Emong will be discounted by up to 300 KRW.
CU is conducting this unprecedented processed milk discount event because processed milk sales rise most sharply in April.
Looking at the month-over-month sales growth rate of processed milk over the past five years, CU found that processed milk sales rose gradually by 2.7% in January, 4.3% in February, and 6.4% in March, then surged to 19.2% in April, recording the highest average sales growth rate of the year.
Especially this year, with the return to normal school attendance, demand for processed milk has increased significantly, showing explosive growth after a slump due to COVID-19. This month, processed milk sales in school and university areas rose by a remarkable 298.8% compared to the previous year.
This figure is significantly higher compared to other categories during the same period: white milk 132.2%, energy drinks 136.5%, canned coffee 159.8%, tea beverages 176.6%, and carbonated drinks 202.3%.
