Police to Investigate Additional Crimes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The police have arrested a man in his 60s, Mr. A, for committing messenger phishing crimes using a three-party fraud scheme.
On the 28th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they have detained Mr. A in his 60s on charges of fraud and are investigating the case.
The police apprehended Mr. A on the 24th in Gumi-si, Gyeongbuk Province.
Mr. A is suspected of sending messages impersonating victims' children since mid-last month and purchasing gold with the victims' money through a remote control app. He involved a third party, such as a gold seller, to embezzle money and goods.
Mr. A and his associates withdrew 213 million KRW from the accounts of 10 victims in a total of 34 transactions and bought gold bars through gold sellers. Ten gold sellers who sold gold to Mr. A reportedly suffered damages as their transaction accounts were suspended due to phishing reports.

The police stated, "There were also damages caused by the suspension of transaction accounts due to phishing reports," and added, "We plan to investigate additional related crimes in the future."
