Kim Dong-yeon: "Finding a Compromise Between the Blue House and the Transition Committee Is the Best Outcome"
"Candidate Lee Chang-yong is an excellent person... Even coveted during his time as Deputy Prime Minister (Economy)"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Wooseok] Kim Dong-yeon, leader of the New Wave party, emphasized the need for sufficient consultation between the Blue House and President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol's transition committee on the 28th.
On the same day, Kim appeared on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' and stated, "Regarding the appointment of heads of public institutions, I think it is a problem that can be resolved without difficulty if the Blue House and the transition committee hold sufficient consultations and find common ground."
He added, "(I worked at the transition committee about 15 years ago) and such issues always arise, but they should be resolved maturely. The authority currently lies with the president, and the period or necessity to work together lies with the president-elect," adding, "It would be best if the two (Moon Jae-in and Yoon Suk-yeol) or the Blue House and the transition committee consult and find a compromise between them."
Kim further said, "Although audit committee members and election commissioners hold important positions, it is somewhat puzzling that the issue has become so contentious. Many of the appointed members are objective and capable individuals, not affiliated with any particular party or faction," and added, "If you look for such people, there are many outstanding talents available. It is unacceptable that people around this issue, including the media, interpret it too politically or frame it as a factional matter."
Regarding the dispute between the Blue House and the transition committee over the appointment of the Bank of Korea governor, he said, "As far as I understand, I think there were probably talks with the (Yoon Suk-yeol) president-elect's side as well. However, I believe there were some hasty remarks from many people around that seemed to provoke conflict," and added, "In the case of Lee Chang-yong, he was a member of the transition committee during the Lee Myung-bak administration and served as vice chairman of the Financial Services Commission. From what I heard, even his intention was confirmed by the (Yoon) side, so I think the rumors were rather fabricated by those around him."
About Lee Chang-yong, the nominee for the Bank of Korea governor, he evaluated, "He is an excellent person both in terms of ability and character," and said, "He was someone I admired even when I was deputy prime minister."
