Exploring Measures to Revitalize Regional Venture Investment

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Chairman Kim Jong-ho, hereinafter referred to as Kibo) announced that it held the 'Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) Regional Venture Investment Meeting' on the 25th to resolve the concentration of investments in the metropolitan area and find ways to revitalize regional venture investments.
This meeting was organized to analyze the current status of the venture ecosystem in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region and to promote the growth of excellent innovative local companies by activating venture investments, thereby creating a virtuous cycle structure of job creation and regional economic revitalization.
To realize a self-sustaining regional venture investment ecosystem, representatives from Kibo, Busan City, Busan Venture Business Association, university technology holding companies, and venture capitalists attended the meeting to share voices from the field.
Kibo introduced plans to expand guarantee-linked investment projects for excellent technology companies located in provincial areas and shared successful cases of regional venture investments. BNK Venture Investment, the operator of the Busan Regional New Deal Venture Fund, and POSCO Technology Investment announced plans to invest in the Regional New Deal Venture Fund focusing on early-stage startups operating in regional strategic industries.

Kibo plans to expand the scale of venture investments this year from 40 billion KRW last year to 50 billion KRW and operate with an investment ratio of over 55% in non-metropolitan areas. Chairman Kim Jong-ho of Kibo stated, "Although Korea's venture investment market has been rapidly growing recently, the investment ratio in non-metropolitan areas still does not reach 20%. Kibo will activate venture investments in excellent technology companies located in Bu-Ul-Gyeong to support smooth scale-up of venture and startup companies and contribute to balanced regional development."
