Gwangju Seo-gu Hwajeong 1-dong, Preparing for the New Spring in Full Swing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Hwajeong 1-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is busy preparing for the new spring.
On the 23rd, according to Seo-gu, members of Hwajeong 1-dong's self-governing organizations planted spring flowers such as azaleas along major arterial roads like Hwaun-ro and launched a large-scale cleanup campaign including illegal waste disposal.
About 30 members from seven organizations, including the Saemaeul Women's Association, the Council, the Munko (Book Club), and the Residents' Autonomy Committee, participated in the new spring cleanup activity held from 10 a.m. that day.
On this day, the members worked together to create a pleasant village environment by planting spring flowers such as pansies along a 500m section of Hwaun-ro.
They also collected 2 tons of waste left in areas vulnerable to illegal dumping and removed illegally hung banners in alleyways.
Kang Kyung-hee, president of the Hwajeong 1-dong Saemaeul Women's Association, said, "I hope the cleanup activities bring vitality to both body and mind during these difficult times of COVID-19," and added, "I am grateful to the village residents who participated in removing the accumulated trash and grime from the winter."
