Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Sends 'Kkachi Pyeonji'... Support for Low-Income Rights Protection
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is accelerating support for rights protection for low-income groups.
On the 23rd, Gwangsan-gu announced that it is helping to protect rights by sending “Magpie Letters” that guide the relaxed system this year to low-income groups who are not receiving social welfare benefits.
Since January this year, the district has been promoting the “Counseling Without Refusal, Happiness Again” project, which provides tailored basic livelihood security system guidance to those who have been excluded from social welfare benefits or whose benefits have been suspended.
This project sends informational notices containing welfare information to households presumed to be welfare blind spots, such as high-risk single-person households and vulnerable groups, linking them to customized services through counseling and welfare demand surveys.
The notice, named “A Kind Letter Delivered by the Magpie,” contains detailed information on this year’s improved major systems and selection criteria, including ▲National Basic Livelihood Security ▲Single-Parent Family Support Project ▲Protection for Vulnerable Youth Preparing for Independence ▲Support for Independent Households of Disabled Youth Under 30 ▲Gwangju-type Basic Security.
So far, 1,078 households have received social security benefit support through this initiative.
Gwangsan-gu plans to continue the project until the end of this year.
In particular, considering that many welfare blind spots occur at the beginning of the year due to system improvements, the district plans to intensively guide the relaxed and improved systems from this month through April.
A Gwangsan-gu official said, “We will realize a Gwangsan without welfare blind spots by sending letter-type notices that proactively identify crisis households ahead of application-based welfare and help them find their rights.”
