[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Yoon Ho-jung, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized maintaining the current system. He had previously stated that he would coolly declare his position, rejecting calls for resignation within the party. Chairman Yoon plans to release a statement in the afternoon.

He added, "Following the four-term and three-term lawmakers, there was a meeting yesterday to listen to the insights of first- and second-term lawmakers, where I could sense their deep affection and determination for the party," and said, "Despite many concerns about my shortcomings, they have been a great source of strength." He continued, "The Emergency Response Committee must push forward party innovation, political reform, the Daejang-dong special prosecutor investigation, and livelihood reform tasks with speed," emphasizing, "The Emergency Response Committee must provide stability to the people who feel both hope and anxiety."
Earlier, Chairman Yoon listened to the opinions of all lawmakers in the party, concluding with the first- and second-term lawmakers' meeting the day before. This was in response to some criticisms that it was inappropriate for Chairman Yoon, who took responsibility for the presidential election defeat, to lead the Emergency Response Committee. However, the debate between calls for Chairman Yoon's resignation and support only confirmed internal strife. Park Yong-jin, who demanded Chairman Yoon's resignation at the previous meeting, appeared on YTN Radio this morning and said, "My proposal is to give the newly elected floor leader on the 25th the authority to reorganize the Emergency Response Committee." He explained that even if the current Emergency Response Committee continues, it is procedurally correct for the new floor leader to propose and present plans.
On the other hand, some believe that urgent issues such as the upcoming June local elections, party reform, and negotiations for the new government’s launch require swift resolution, and that it is better to quickly end conflicts rather than prolonging further exhausting confusion.
