President-elect Yoon Talks with UK Prime Minister Johnson... "Discussing Development Plans Between the Two Countries"
Agreement on the Need for International Cooperation to Denuclearize North Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol discussed development plans between the two countries with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Both President-elect Yoon and Prime Minister Johnson agreed on the necessity of international cooperation for North Korea's denuclearization.
On the 15th, spokesperson Kim Eun-hye introduced through a written briefing, "President-elect Yoon and Prime Minister Johnson had a phone call at 5:30 PM the previous day."
Spokesperson Kim stated, "Prime Minister Johnson conveyed his congratulations to President-elect Yoon on his election, and the President-elect also sincerely congratulated Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom on reaching the milestone of her 70th anniversary of accession (Platinum Jubilee)."
President-elect Yoon expressed his intention to develop friendly and cooperative relations with the United Kingdom, a friendly nation that participated in the Korean War. He added, "We plan to actively review the 'Korea-UK Bilateral Framework' proposed by Prime Minister Johnson last June, and hope to expand the comprehensive and creative partnership between the two countries into various fields such as batteries and rare minerals, greenhouse gas reduction, and carbon neutrality."
President-elect Yoon and Prime Minister Johnson also agreed on the necessity of cooperation with the United States and the UN Security Council to lead North Korea's denuclearization, as the situation on the Korean Peninsula is becoming severe due to consecutive missile tests. President-elect Yoon stated that Russia's attack on Ukraine is a threat to the shared values between the UK and Korea and an attack on global freedom and democracy.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Johnson expressed his intention to personally deliver his autobiography in relation to President-elect Yoon mentioning Winston Churchill as a politician he respects. President-elect Yoon reportedly responded, "Sir Churchill is a great politician and a lasting literary figure in human history, and I deeply remember the victory achieved through his indomitable will and dedication shown during the country's difficult times."
