[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The North Korea nuclear representatives of South Korea, the United States, and Japan have engaged in a telephone consultation to discuss North Korea's ballistic missile launches.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 14th, Noh Kyu-duk, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a trilateral telephone consultation with Sung Kim, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Director of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau at Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The three senior representatives pointed out and condemned North Korea's recent consecutive ballistic missile launches as violations of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions. They also urged North Korea to cease acts that create insecurity and escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and to promptly return to dialogue. The three countries agreed to closely monitor North Korea's related developments and respond under close cooperation.

This consultation took place after North Korea conducted test launches on the 27th of last month and the 5th of this month to test the performance of a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). There are even signs that additional test launches are being prepared soon. Typically, South Korea, the U.S., and Japan hold bilateral telephone consultations after North Korea launches missiles, but due to the successive provocations, the three countries convened to discuss together.
