Hyeon Geuntaek: "Is Park Jihyun a 'contender against Lee Junseok'? She will be tested by her abilities"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Park] Hyun Geun-taek, former spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea's election countermeasures committee, highly praised Park Ji-hyun, an activist from the 'Nth Room Tracking Team Bulkkot,' who was appointed as the Democratic Party's co-chair of the Emergency Response Committee, saying, "She played a very significant role in garnering a lot of support from women in their 20s and 30s in the final stages of this election."
On the 14th, former spokesperson Hyun appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and responded to the question, "Is Park Ji-hyun, the co-chair of the Emergency Response Committee, being strategically promoted as a rival to Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party?" by saying, "We cannot forcibly create a rival to Lee Jun-seok. She is building it through her own political skills."
Former spokesperson Hyun continued, "(Co-chair Park) contributed to the election, and the evaluation is not simply about whether our party's identity is feminist or not, but that she is young, female, and has actually made efforts herself. That is the basis for the evaluation," adding, "Being a rival to Lee Jun-seok is something she has to pursue going forward. She must be verified through her abilities and skills while engaging in activities on broadcasts and in the media."
Regarding Lee Jun-seok's remarks criticizing the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee appointments as "seeking a way forward after the election through minority politics," Hyun rebutted, "It is inappropriate for the opposing party to comment on 'whether a specific person should be the Emergency Response Committee chair or not.'" Former spokesperson Hyun also said, "It seems like the claim is that appointing Co-chair Park means the Democratic Party is becoming a feminist party, but everyone knows that Lee Jun-seok has been dividing men and women all along," adding, "Is it appropriate for the leader of the opposing party to dictate who should or should not be on the Emergency Response Committee? I think that's somewhat inappropriate."
Earlier, Lee had targeted the Democratic Party through his Facebook post, saying, "Rather than clumsily engaging in minority politics, it would be better to give opportunities to Kim Hae-young, Park Yong-jin, and Cho Eung-cheon, who have been marginalized by the Democratic Party until now. 'Emergency Response Committee Chair Kim Hae-young' would be expected and not feared, unlike a '180-seat Justice Party' which is not frightening," and added, "If they seek a way forward after the election through minority politics, they will inevitably become a '180-seat Justice Party' or a '180-seat Green Party.'"
Meanwhile, Park Ji-hyun, who reported on the 'Telegram Nth Room' case and raised awareness about the severity of digital sex crimes, was appointed as the Democratic Party's co-chair of the Emergency Response Committee the day before.
At the first Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido that day, Co-chair Park said, "The Democratic Party should not only remember the election results from five days ago but also more deeply remember the accumulated behaviors over five years that have been called hypocritical by the public and supporters," adding, "We should not be complacent with the 47.8% public support but must find the causes of defeat and deeply reflect on what 47.8% means and pursue reform."

She also criticized ruling party figures who had remained silent about power-related sex crimes. Co-chair Park stated, "(The Democratic Party) has abused their positions and power without any consideration for victims in cases of power-related sex crimes and sexual misconduct, has not apologized for secondary harm, and has feigned ignorance," and declared, "We will introduce a zero-tolerance policy for sexual violence, sexual misconduct, and power-related sex crimes."
