Seocho-gu, Strong Learning Support for Vulnerable Children: Recruiting for '2022 Seoripul Saem'
Supported by the high satisfaction of Seoripulsaem mentoring, 70 additional Seoripulsaem mentors will be recruited until the 18th... Providing 'Mentor Capacity Building Training' and 'Career Consulting Expert' courses to this year's recruited Seoripulsaem mentors, strengthening mentoring capabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu announced that it will recruit an additional 70 mentors for the educational safety net program ‘Seoripul Saem’ for vulnerable children and adolescents in the area by the 18th.
Started in 2019, the ‘Seoripul Saem Mentoring’ program provides 1:1 customized mentoring in various fields such as learning, emotional support, career, and culture to low-income vulnerable children and adolescents. Mentors consist of local career-returning women and former teachers. Last year, through about 160 Seoripul Saem mentors, 530 children received mentoring, which improved academic achievement and learning efficacy, resulting in very high satisfaction among the participating children.
This year, the program will focus its capabilities on ‘academic’ support, giving preference to teachers, instructors with teaching qualifications, and university or graduate students related to education.
With the Seoripul Saem mentors recruited this year, the district plans to provide mentor capacity-building training and career consulting expert courses to further enhance the quality of mentoring compared to last year.
In addition, for elementary and middle school children who have experienced learning difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, ‘AI Smart Schooling’ devices will be provided. By establishing a high-tech online learning environment and combining it with high-touch offline mentoring from Seoripul Saem, children can engage in self-directed learning.
Notably, while last year AI Smart Schooling devices were provided only to legally low-income children (basic livelihood security, second-lowest income bracket, single-parent families), this year the support will be expanded to all vulnerable children.
Eligibility and application methods for the ‘Seoripul Saem’ mentor program can be found on the Seocho-gu Office website. For detailed inquiries, contact the Welfare Policy Division of Seocho-gu Office.
